Could you please make it so when sharing results it shows the stat that you were in the top % of the day? Our group often get the same score, so we need a way to distinguish who gets bragging rights!

I hate the new colours. To me they seem the wrong way around

Thanks for the comment. The colours are the same (blue for vowels, grey for consonants), just tweaked to improve contrast. This helps more people play comfortably, especially those with vision challenges. Appreciate you sharing your thoughts.

The colours are ok and the new stronger blue is fine, but to me better to have the consonants in the dominant blue, not the vowels.

I totally agree!

They are the wrong way around for my brain! I actually find it hard to play now. Is there any chance you could make the consonants darker than the vowels? Please?

Totally support this comment! The intensity of the blue implies they are the letters to focus on. It's definitely harder to get my brain around the new format.

I think the shade of blue for the vowels was quite pale, now I think it's too bright. It stands out more than the grey, it should be the other way round. Maybe make the blue a shade lighter and/or the grey a shade darker, only a little though.

Hi, I love playing your game and am totally hooked daily, thank you ☺️

My problem with the new colours, though, is that they are the wrong way around for my brain! I actually find it hard to play it now. Is there any chance you could make the consonants darker than the vowels? Please?

Thank you.

I like the new colours, better definition. I have however an unrelated question. How do you score players' completed puzzle responses to determine whether they are in the top 10%, 20% or whatever? Is it based on speed of completion alone, or just on the number of lives used in guessing the answers, or a combination of both?

I think it's about time we send another newsletter and this sounds like a good topic. Stay tuned!

Like the colors. In results would like to see number played, and number achieved. In result often get 100% but have missed letters, so not sure what the 100 means. Enjoy the daily challenge. Thanks.

Why don't I have the new colours? I've downloaded the app again in case it needed updating.

Clearly your phonetic, phonemic and phonological metaknowledge is at a primary school level.

Can we have the link added back to the share score?

Friends play via the link when I share my score.

The link was what was causing it not to work at all with Messenger. If a link is included in the text that is shared, Messenger would ignore your score and just send a link to the game. If Meta ever decide to change that behaviour - and I hope they do - we'll be able to put the link back. I'm sorry it's not better news - it's really frustrating!

Can you put a key at the topi on the game page of which colour is which. I keep forgetting which colour is which and when the letters populate its quick and you don't see what colour space they took.

Don't need a colour key, on the keyboatd the 5 vowels have the same colour band as in the words.

I didnt get any stats tonight. Finished in 44 seconds with zero misses. What's up? Bug?

Yes, there was a bug that day, unfortunately!

That’s happened to me before and I assume it’s because not enough players have gone before you, to come up with a stat?

"Y" and "W" are considered semi-vowels, not consonants, by linguists. It's very confusing to have them shown as consonants.

Denise Montgomery's avatar

It isn’t confusing at all. Ask any child what a vowel is and they will say a e i o u. I don’t think Hang Five is too hung up on linguistics.

Is this game aimed at people with primary school level education only? English has over thirty vowel sounds.

Expand full comment
Robert Wilson's avatar

Never knew that. 99% of us would know only 5 vowels. Go with the flow :-))

Maybe just chill Moyra. It’s a game they created for us all to enjoy. You don’t have to play it.

Never heard of W as a vowel in my life.

Moyra Sweetnam's avatar

It is used to depict vowel sounds in English as in words such as clown, brown. It is effectively a semivowel, as is y in words such as pretty.

I have a blue heart in my results today, what does this mean? I thought I solved it with only one consonant loss ie black heart

Expand full comment
Carissa K Martin's avatar

It means you used a vowel before you'd solved all the consonants.
